It’s amazing seeing how much investment is going into Blackpool every time I visit, but its crowning glory will always be the Blackpool Illuminations, a very proud part of our Lancashire heritage.
There’s something about standing on the seafront, wrapped up for the autumn weather to walk through the colourful lights, twinkling against the night sky.
I joined colleagues from across Lancashire, as well as our Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy MP, for the switch-on event, which was held in collaboration with BBC Radio Lancashire.
We’re very excited that Blackpool is in the shortlist this year to become the UK’s City of Culture. Anyone who has visited previous cities of culture, know how much the investment and events can leave a lasting cultural and economic legacy across the region, so I will be lobbying hard with my colleagues to clinch the title for Lancashire!
And my fellow millennials will appreciate how BRILLIANT it was to get to see Five perform before the switch-on – and yes, I did do all the dance moves.
It was an evening of pure joy and pride in this special, bonkers place we get to live.
