On Wednesday 10th June, I presented a petition in the House of Commons calling for an independent review of plans to remove 18 trees in Preston.
The petition, which is led by campaigners and backed by an online petition signed by almost 8,000 people, appeals the proposal by the Environment Agency to fell 18 of the 21 royal lime trees on Victoria Road, Walton-le-Dale.
There are extremely strong feelings within the community on this and more than 100 residents attended a public meeting held earlier the same week with the Environment Agency.
As part of the parliamentary procedure around paper petitions, the lime trees petition will be printed in Hansard, the official report of all parliamentary debates, and sent to the relevant ministerial department for a response. I’ll keep you all updated.
