Thirty farmers told me about their experiences and their thoughts on how the government can support their businesses when I held my latest farmer engagement event this week.
Eight at Gazegill, in Rimington, was the venue for the event, which focused on the findings of the Farming Profitability Review 2025, led by Baroness Minette Batters, published last December.
There were 57 recommendations made in the review, which recognised that many farmers are carrying disproportionate risk, ranging from the weather and volatile markets to rising costs.
The goal of the evening was to listen to feedback so that I can do all I can to advocate for my farming constituents in Westminster.
We talked about fuel, fertiliser and planning issues, among other concerns, and I know there was some great networking done by those in the room, with the potential to work together in the future.
It was a really productive session, which I hope everyone found useful.
