Farming communities are essential to keeping Britain moving and deserve to have a strong voice fighting their corner in whatever unique challenges they face.
I’m delighted to further cement my dedication to these communities by taking a key role in the Labour Rural Research Group.
As a founder member of the group, I’ve now joined the executive as treasurer.
The group of more than 35 rural and semi-rural Labour MPs was set up to support the government’s mission to deliver for the UK, ensuring rural areas are at the heart of national ambitions.
Chaired by Jenny Riddell-Carpenter, MP for Suffolk Coastal, it focuses on bringing forward research, evidence and policy ideas that will help unlock the potential of our rural communities while highlighting the challenges our rural communities face.
I’m proud of the work done by the LRRG so far to better gauge the landscape, including through our Understanding Rural Britain report, and know we have set a firm foundation to make a real difference.
Yet I’m determined to do more and as a member of the executive I’ll be well placed to ensure a bright future for farmers.
