If you’ve ever been treated in hospital, have you always known exactly which staff are in the room and what their roles are?
It can be a problem, according to Danielle Checketts, the co-founder of a business that was showcasing its work in Parliament recently at an event I was pleased to give my backing to.
Identity
Put simply, Eco Ninjas makes caps worn by medics in operating theatres that display their name and role. Danielle, a former medical professional, found she had been misidentified on many occasions when working in theatres so developed the product, that identifies everyone from surgeons to students.
The event shone a spotlight on the need for better communication in hospital settings. During a procedure, it’s vital that surgical teams and patients can easily identify the role of everyone in the room to improve safety and communication.
Maternity benefit
Mothers and birth partners undergoing a C-section, for example, would know exactly who is in the room, easing any anxiety during what is often an unplanned situation.
I’m keen to explore how we can improve life in healthcare environments for staff and patients, so this was a really interesting session.
