School dinners, speed limits and my thoughts on meeting the king were on the timetable when I visited Whitechapel Primary School.
I called in to meet children in years five and six for a special assembly where they asked me some really thoughtful questions about my life as an MP and the work I’m doing locally.
They wanted to know what inspired me to become an MP, what’s a typical day and what excites me about the role, as well as what the government is doing for schools, the armed forces, the environment and even brass bands.
I’ve visited every high school and about 50 primary schools since I’ve been in post and it’s always great to hear pupils’ perspectives.
There were also some ‘outside the box’ questions like ‘if your job was a colour, what colour would it be?’. (Can you guess my answer?)
I then sat down with school council members, who had surveyed their classmates on school dinners and gave me some food for thought that I can feed into the government’s current School Food Standards consultation.
You can respond to the consultation here.
Thanks to everyone at Whitechapel Primary School for such a lovely welcome.
