Nominate Ribble Valley’s ‘family-friendly’ places and people

Shining a spotlight on the hidden gems supporting families

We all know the saying ‘it takes a village’ when it comes to raising children, but, in my constituency, it takes a valley.

There are some fantastic family-friendly places and people in Ribble Valley – and I need you to help me find them.

The Family-friendly Awards 2026 will shine a spotlight on the businesses, events and individuals across Ribble Valley catering for children, young people and their families.

I’m thinking about those who really go the extra mile to support families.

I’m looking for nominations in eight categories and I hope as many people as possible will get involved.

The awards will include the following categories (click on each for a summary of what I’m looking for):

Family-friendly Pub

Is there a pub you know that goes out of its way to put on events for children and families? Perhaps they have made a dedicated space for colouring and toys? Do they open for parent and baby coffee at different times of the day? Do they have a playground outside? Give them a shout-out!

Is there a place that makes children feel welcome, where the staff help you with your upset toddler or have activities for your kids? Do they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable to eat some nice food with your kids!?

Do you know an eatery that’s given real extra thought to their kids’ food? Options outside the norm? A fun engaging design? Let us know where we can find it!

Is there someone you want to shout out who is always helpful and makes you feel welcome when you’re out with kids? We all know those people, who remember the names of your kids, or who chat to your baby while you’re getting them into their high chair. Give them a shout-out to going above and beyond.

What’s the best outdoor activity that really makes you feel welcome with kids of all ages? Who makes it easy to have a fab day out where all your needs are covered?

Who has the best indoor experience for kids? It could be especially for kids, or it could be an all-ages experience that still makes an effort to include children and make them feel special.

Who puts a huge amount of effort into their event? It could be a community-run occasion, or a big brilliant show or experience. We all need variety, so let us know where the best one-off events are.

Is your employer particularly supportive of employees with children? Have they improved morale and employee retention through their approach? Give them a shout-out and tell us what they do to give others inspiration.

The closing date for entries is March 2, with an independent judging panel making the final decision based on the nominations.

Winners will be announced later in March and I’ll be sharing the full list of nominations so that families have a ready-made collection of places to visit and things to do in time for the Easter holidays.

Looking forward to reading the nominations!

“As a proud advocate for families, and a mum-of-two, I know only too well the pressures families are under and the relief when you find a place or activity that makes you feel welcome. I’m looking forward to reading all the nominations, which will no doubt unearth some hidden gems that should benefit everyone in the constituency.”
