Meeting all the schools in the constituency has been a priority over my first year in this role, as I really do believe that encouraging our younger generation to become active in their communities (and maybe even into politics!) is how we create a more engaged and compassionate society.
So far, I’ve visited over 20 local schools, including:
- Archbishop Temple Church of England High School
- Balderstone St Leonard’s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School
- Bowland High
- Brabins Endowed School
- Bridgeway School
- Broughton-in-Amounderness Church of England Primary School
- Coupe Green Primary School
- Grindleton Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School
- Longridge High School
- Preston College
- Sherwood Primary School
- St Francis Catholic Primary School, Goosnargh
- St Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary School, Langho
- St Mary’s and St Benedict’s Roman Catholic Primary School
- Stonyhurst College
- Thorneyholme Roman Catholic Primary School, Dunsop Bridge
- Walton-Le-Dale High School
- Walton-le-Dale Community Primary School
It’s always a pleasure to talk to students about what they would change to make their village and country better and how they think we can best amplify the voice of young people in politics.
I’m always keen to engage with as many schools as possibly, so do email me at maya.ellis.mp@parliament.uk if you’d like to arrange a visit.
UK Parliament Week (UKPW) is an annual event raising awareness of what UK Parliament is, what it does and how people can get involved. This year, it is taking place from 24 – 30 November.
You can sign up your school at ukparliamentweek.org via a short online form. On signing up you will be posted a free resource kit to help you or your colleagues plan your school’s UKPW activity. The kit includes a tailored booklet (there are primary school or secondary school options) packed with curriculum-linked lesson plans, worksheets and activities that can be adapted to fit the time available (e.g. for school assemblies, in lessons or tutor time).
