This year, alongside the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner, I’ve convened a group of Lancashire MPs to form an anti-VAWG taskforce, which provides us an opportunity to discuss how to most effectively tackle VAWG within Lancashire. The group will help create a stronger, more informed VAWG voice across Lancashire.
Alongside the regular meetings we’ve been having, this July, we got to speak to Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls, Jess Phillips, and discuss her ambition for the government’s upcoming VAWG strategy, followed by a conversation on our current local plans.
This government has committed to halving violence against women and girls in a decade and we’re committed to supporting this aim. Following the publication of the VAWG strategy this Summer, we’ll be sure to continue working with the government as a group to make our communities safer together.
There is a real opportunity for Lancashire to pioneer great work in tackling Violence Against Women and Girls, and we have we have the opportunity for Lancashire to be a leading light nationally in changing this continued threat to our society, but we need everyone working together to do that
Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw has also recently launched a Lancashire wide VAWG survey, aiming to better understand what the key issues are for the safety of women and girls in Lancashire.
This survey may be triggering for some, so please only fill out if you feel able to do so: https://tinyurl.com/y75xbc8p
