Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee

Back in 2024, I was honoured to have been appointed as a Member of the Housing, Communities and Local Government (HCLG) Committee.

Regeneration, placemaking, and integrating infrastructure and community into new developments are top priorities for me. This Committee will tackle these issues and work across parties to scrutinise the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s policies, administration, and spending.

So far this year, we’ve held an array of evidence sessions, speaking directly with experts and cross-examining government figures on policy. We’ve also opened several enquiries on issues such as the funding and sustainability of local government finance, the affordability of home ownership and land value capture.

One of my main focuses in my role as an HCLG member is to ensure rural communities are heard, and that their particular needs are recognised. This is especially important as Lancashire enters a phase of devolution and local government reorganisation, and I’m committed to ensuring our county gets the most out of these changes.

You can keep up to date with the work of the HCLG Committee here.
