The Government recently announced it is launching the first ever comprehensive review of Britain’s parental leave and pay system.
With 1 in 3 dads not taking paternity leave due to financial reasons, I’m delighted this government is looking to introduce the best possible support to allow parents to balance their work and home lives.
We must ensure that local employers and organisations are given the guidance they need to help shape a fairer, more flexible system. In July, I got to raise this issue in the House of Commons Chamber, you can see my full contribution here. It was great to hear that Justin Madders MP, a Business and Trade Minister, will ensure the paternity leave review is there for employers too.
This Parental Leave and Pay Review will look at how Shared Parental Leave works, the amount of pay offered for different types of parental leave, and whether Paternity leave should be extended and paid. Whether you’re a local employer or community organisation—your input can help improve support for families and boost economic growth.
