This July, the Labour government brought back Sure Start (with a slightly different name ).
My biggest priority when becoming an MP was to make things better for babies, children and families, and the single biggest thing I have been campaigning for is the roll out and improvement of spaces and services for families.
The Secretary of State for Education announced half a billion pounds of funding to start rolling out ‘Best Start Family Hubs’ that start to rebuild the legacy of Sure Start, where we invest in every child and family right from the beginning, so that everyone can thrive.
Best Start Family hubs will be local hubs where families can access a range of services all in one place – from pregnancy, to early years and beyond. Parents can find out everything they need to know here.
It was a real ‘pinch-me moment’ to be able to raise this in the Chamber and shout out parents and childcare providers in Ribble Valley. You can read my full contribution, and look at the Secretary of State’s response, here.
I look forward to working with colleagues to bring this to life and to make the UK the best place in the world to raise a family.
